Spooky Inspirations
Part 1 of 2

Well, Halloween is almost upon us. So it's time for a very creepy post. This one is guaranteed to send shivers down your spine.

The Churchyard Human Bone Collection is jewelry made from real human bones - teeth, wrist, feet and finger bones. They are all one of a kind designs because no two bones are exactly alike. The collection is by Sunspot Designs.

Need an anatomy lesson? The specimen above is a human metatarsal (foot) bone embellished with an indicolite (blue-green tourmaline) gemstone.
Below left is a molar pendant and on the right, a human wrist bone pendant with clear quartz and ruby gemstone additions.

The earring below features a human finger bone. The sterling silver link necklace includes carpal (wrist) bones and garnets. The "charm necklace " consists of distal phalanges (fingertip bones).

The churchyard human bone topic reminded me of something else. Movie buffs might like to know of a new film out next week (UK opening date: October 29th) entitled Burke and Hare. No word yet if there will ever be a US or Canadian release.

It's a black comedy about a real life pair of 19th century Irish immigrants who supplied a shady private anatomy physician teacher and his Edinburgh medical school students with much needed cadavers...no questions asked. In the aftermath, the UK introduced the Anatomy Act in 1832.

The movie stars a couple of excellent British character actors - Simon Pegg and Andy Serkis. Check out the movie trailer on Youtube.
