I was rather late getting started with a Facebook Page. To be honest, I didn't really like the clunky and occasionally buggy software. But Facebook is huge -  it recently surpassed Google as the most visited site in the US. So if you are interested in promoting your jewelry store, it can't be ignored.

You probably already have a profile (personal) page. Making a Facebook (Fan) Page for your business is the next step. Once you have your Facebook Page set up and earned yourself the minimum 25 fans, then switch over to a proper business name - not something with many numbers in the URL. Mine is simply -  http://www.facebook.com/TheBeadingGem.

The tabs you see on the page can be customized in many ways. Note all Page visitors will be arriving on your wall tab by default. So why not create a landing page for new arrivals who haven't yet "liked" you? Once a fan though, they will be directed straight to the wall.

3 Reasons Why You Should Have a Landing Page :
  • Tell new visitors who you are or what your page is all about
  • Invite them to "like" your page
  • Promotional announcements like special discounts and contests
Here are some landing page examples. Artbeads' landing page, if you haven't yet liked them, is their current contest. If you look closely, it's just a big image with a simple link at the bottom.

Artfire's landing page is all about their latest Pro offer. Again it's a poster image with a banner link at the bottom.

Swarovki's welcome page also looks like a poster but it has interactive portions.

Etsy's landing page just explains what they are about. This one has more involved coding with links to handpicked items.

Here are two easy ways to create a Facebook Landing Page for yourself:

1. Add a Simple Image
If you can use Powerpoint or Adobe Photoshop or similar image/drawing software, then go ahead and create an image. Upload it to a free photo site like Flickr or Photobucket. The photo's share function allows you to copy the link code to use.

Now follow this video tutorial on adding that new tab to your page. It was the briefest and most straightforward instruction I could find on Youtube on how to add Static FBML. Creating this tab on your page lets you add HTML codes. Just substitute the image code you got above for the instructor's.

And that is how I essentially created my Free Tutorials Page tab.

I stopped short of making it a landing page for new visitors. I used the next method instead for my welcome page.

2. Pagemodo
If all that talk of coding makes your eyes crossed, then you have to try the no-code route. Kudos to Karen from Paper Demon Jewelry who dropped me a hint about her Facebook Pagemodo in my chatbox.

Pagemodo is a free service for their 1-page option. There are a number of templates to choose from. All you have to do is upload pictures from your shop, add the shop links to the images, some text and you are done! 15-20 minutes is all you need if you have already decided which pictures to use.

Connect to your Facebook and the software automatically puts in the tab. Make sure you change the Facebook wall settings as shown at the end of the above video so new visitors are directed  to the welcome page.

Here is their quick video to show how truly easy it is!

You can always substitute the photos later. Remember to select the 1-pager option again when you update! There are 2 update buttons you must select - for the page itself AND the Facebook page. I found out the hard way updating only the pagebuilder won't show the changes on Facebook.

Below is my welcome page :

There are Pagemodo promotional links when you use their free service which is fair enough. Starving artists can't be too choosy. However, if you really don't like to see those, then use the first method to generate a landing page.
