I've featured miniature beaded jewelry before for Barbie dolls (see link below).

But Susan Elliott's amazing embroidered and bejeweled picture is different. It's her homage to the film, Breakfast at Tiffany's, starring Audrey Hepburn.

Susan described the design process over a series of posts on her blog called Plays with Needles. I don't know which I like better, the tiara and necklace for Holly Golightly or the fabulous beaded chandelier. Her advanced embroidery and quilting skills are evident.

The tiara presented some challenges as she could not sew the jewels directly to the "hair" as they would become lost. So she first sewed on all the jewels to fine aluminum mesh using transparent thread. She then cut around the the tiara which could then be securely attached to the hair as one piece.

The work is still in progress as she is adding a bejeweled butterfly to the design. The butterfly idea was inspired by actual Tiffany brooch ones as well as some of her own.  The latest picture also shows a row of delicately sewn beaded garlands.

When it is finished, this work of art will be an exquisite celebration of one classic movie!

Check out the original trailer to the movie and see the inspirational bejeweled bee hive hairstyles worn by Audrey Hepburn.
