Briolettes are side drilled beads with a lot of potential for elegance and drama. One excellent example are these beautiful red ones used in Aniolek Maly's Passion Earrings. This Polish artisan generously shared her tutorial on her Deviantart site (UPDATE : link no longer exists).

Her wire work tutorial demonstrates how the scrolled element is accomplished with just round nose pliers. It is then wrapped to the tear drop wire frame. The little silver balls are added after wrapping almost all of the frame is done.
