Button hoarders need not feel guilty!  Use up your stash - especially the mismatched ones - in jewelry designs.  They can even be incorporated into bead embroidery projects!  Check out this tutorial by Hayley over on Craftaholique.  It's the sort of project which lends itself to using up odd flatback rhinestones and beads as well.


Although the designer applied bead embroidery techniques, she used felt as the base.  You can always use proper beading foundation and back it with leather.

One suggestion I have is to sew jump rings in between the layers at the outer corners. That way, you can use chain for the rest of the necklace instead of ribbon if you so wish.
