I have always enjoyed teaching and being able to share my jewelry making knowledge and tips. The greatest pleasure I get comes from the looks on the faces of students as they realize how able they are to create something lovely.   Everyone has creativity inside them - some just need more coaxing then others!

Back in Nova Scotia,  I taught beginner classes at a farm museum's tea room with my friend Debbie! Since moving to Ontario, I have taught during Techniques Nights at the Grand River Bead Society where I am a member.

Now I am pleased to announce that I will be teaching at Iguana Beads in Preston, Cambridge. This local bead store is being revamped by its new owner, Crissy Dixon.  You can see more pictures of the developing store on the Iguana Beads's Facebook.

My first class planned so far is a necklace design class. This is a beginner stringing class. Rather than work with kits,  Crissy has come up with a challenge tray of goodies shown in the picture above- there may be more things added to it on the day. That way, students will be able to create truly unique designs of their own.

It is a great way to design a custom necklace without having to shell out for strands of beads especially if you do not want to be "stranded" with a whole bunch of beads you do not want to use again.

BEGINNER NECKLACE DESIGN WORKSHOP
7PM FRIDAY AUGUST 12, 2016
AT IGUANA BEADS, CAMBRIDGE ON
CALL 519-653-2200 TO BOOK A SPOT
Special introductory price of $25

The class covers the basics of stringing on beading wire including crimping, attaching clasps and creating a focal dangle pendant if desired. Students will learn about components, proper tool use and techniques.  More than that, they will learn how to design as well. I will share my tips and tricks to get started on the design process.

Stringing may be simple to those who have already done it.  But simpler techniques actually require greater effort in creativity to make designs look original and good.

This sort of workshop is not only just for learning.  Call it a girls' night out and come and have fun with your friends.  Some of my past students did so - as did the local chapter of the Red Hat Society ladies (scroll down)! A fun evening to relax and kick off the weekend ahead.  So please spread the word!

All my future events - workshops and shows - will be listed in the top right of my blog (as well as on my Facebook page)
