How to Work with Large Hole Beads

By on Thursday, October 12, 2017 4 Comments

Pandora style beads and lamp work beads have large holes. These are great if you are inserting thick cord or chain through them. But if you don't, you'll need one of these 7 tips from Mylene Hillam of Mill Lane Studio to work with large hole beads in jewelry designs.

Basically, what you have to do is find a way of reducing the extra space in the hole. One of the ways she mentions is the one I often use - place two bicones on either side - as shown above.

Her other suggestions include different kinds of tubing to go inside the holes.  Mylene has some really creative ideas!

As she also mentioned, there are indeed such things as  bead aligners (TierraCast) - they are basically daisy rondelles with extensions!

  1. She certainly has some great ideas! I didn't even know there was something that covers memory wire...duh!

Divya had a great suggestion too - using them as cord ends.

I like big hole beads as compared to trying to drill out pearls... LOL!

  3. Great tips! I've done this and also use florist tape wrapped around the pins.
