I was quite surprised to learn that of the ten provinces and three territories in Canada, only six of them actually have a symbolic gemstone. Not every area is lucky enough to have significant supplies of a particular gemstone.
British Columbia : Jade
Ontario : Amethyst
Nova Scotia : Agate
Newfoundland and Labrador : Labradorite
Yukon : Lazulite
Northern Territories : Diamond
The photo shows a banded agate. These can be found in certain areas in the Bay of Fundy area in Eastern Canada. Nova Scotian agate is treasured for its range of colour and pattern.
Banded agate is a lovely stone with lots of potential in jewelry such as the necklace on the right. The designer used wire wrapping techniques adding distinctive detail to the agate pendant.
