More Real Flower Resin Jewelry Tips, Tricks and Tutorials | Which Background Do You Prefer?

Ever since the dandelions started taking over earlier this year, I have been harvesting, drying and embedding flowers and leaves for making real flower jewelry.

Each time I do that, I experiment and try new things. Here are some of the things I have discovered.

Giveaway : Starbond Premium Cyanoacrylate SuperGlue with Accelerator

I've used Super New Glue for many years. It's not the same formulation as the regular Super Glue. The latter kind of cyanoacrylate glue can become quite brittle and thus is unsuitable for jewelry applications.

But a few years ago, I stumbled upon the Starbond family of cyanoacrylate glues and have never looked back!  It not only performs just as well Super New Glue but comes in different forms to suit different purposes.  They now offer a 15% discount for my blog readers - use this code BGSB15.

How to Color Metal | Experiments with Various Metal Paints | Inspirational Designs

Being able to color metal just adds a whole new dimension to handmade jewelry. Some designs might just need that extra splash of color.

So I began to test out different types of paints for metals. The four products I chose to try are shown below. They each have their pros and cons so which you choose will depend on what you want to achieve. What I wanted is a way to get the enamel look without a kiln or torch!

Peyote Creator Software Program Review and Giveaway

Remember Igor Kotelevskii? He is the original developer for BeadCreator Pro 6 as well as the designer for the newer beading software program, bead-n-stitch.  I reviewed the latter some time ago.

He has been busy and has come out with an exciting program which is sure to please those who love contemporary geometric beadwork. It is called simply Peyote Creator. It promises to make designing your own patterns a lot easier. No more colored pencils and paper charts!

Beadographer - A New and Easy to Use Beading Software

I have reviewed a number of beading software (apps) over the years.  Some are free and often bug ridden. Some are powerful and complex - perhaps too complex for many beaders' needs - sometimes not easy to navigate and cost.

I first stumbled on Beadographer on Facebook and was suitably impressed. It is a brand new app with a lot going for it.  I can see it growing with time. Much thought has gone into this app making it a beader's joy.  Simple to use with clean looks.

Which Glue to Use for Stud Earrings?

It's not always possible to avoid using glue in jewelry making. Think about leather cord pieces which have to be glued into cord ends like this past tutorial of mine for a wire wrapped crystal necklace.

Stud earrings are also good examples. The posts have to be securely glued to withstand the repeated putting on and pulling off of the earring backs. What is challenging about stud posts is the relatively small area of the glue pads.

Ocean Inspired Resin Bangle Tutorial

Fran Valera of Little Windows sent me their new clever double-sided silicone molds set to try.  These make not just resin bangles but larger geometric ornaments and trinket dishes.

There are 4 sizes and shapes which come individually or as a set. Note : LW offers a 15% discount for all readers - just use this code : BG1516.

I positioned my fingers as if I was going to put on a bangle and then measured the widest part of my hand around the knuckles. Turns out I am a small - the circle mold which fits up to 8" (20.5 cm). The oval medium fits up to 8.5"(22 cm), the square medium fits up to 9" (23 cm) and the rectangle fits up to 10" (25.5 cm).

How to Make a Sea Glass Shadow Box Pendant | Tips and Tricks

I first introduced my original miniature shadowbox pendants and tutorial a couple of weeks ago. These miniature shadowboxes are my original idea - shadowboxes are usually much larger!  That first tutorial was for "dry" additions where the objects are glued.

This tutorial will deal with "wet" additions where you might want to encase mementos with epoxy resin.  I will also be testing out Starbond's Superfast Thin glue which is very liquid and imparts a glossy finish. It might be a reasonable substitute for those who don't want to use epoxy resin.

YoolaKnitter Wire Crochet Tool Review and Giveaway

I first wrote about Israeli designer Yael Falk of Yoola more than 8 years ago.  Back then, she was making finished wire crochet knitted jewelry. But in the intervening years, Yael has gone from strength to strength, offering wonderful tools and tutorials for others.

I am a huge fan.  I have been using her tools and helpful hints on how to wire crochet knit for years.  It's wire crochet because crochet hooks are used but the result resembles knitting. Yael herself calls it wire crochet ISK (invisible spool knitting). See my past comparative post for ISK vs Viking Knit.

Bead-n-Stitch Beading Software Review and Giveaway

I wrote a review on beading software programs some years ago, both free and commercial. There is now a new commercial pattern making program, Bead-n-Stitch  - already in use in Eastern Europe - which has recently been released to the North American market not just for beaders but embroiderers, weavers and cross- stitchers.

You can upload a photo or illustration and have the program render to whatever size project you want, using bead types, sizes and colors of choice.  Users can also work from scratch on a blank canvas.  The program can also make combined patterns with both beads and cross stitching, if desired.

Layered Resin Jewelry Tutorial using Fabric and Heart Paper Punches

There are so many beautiful fabrics out there!  If you have scraps from your fabric stash to use up, then this tutorial is for you!

I have wanted to do a fabric resin jewelry tutorial ever since I saw Fran Valera's tutorial on how to do it.  Basically, she coated fabric lightly with resin and allowed it to cure. Cutting out shapes with scissors afterwards though didn't appeal to me but the paper punch idea did.  As the resin infused fabric becomes stiff like cardstock, why not?

How to Make Bead Embroidered Jewelry Tutorial Using Nunn Design Findings

My bead embroidery jewelry tutorial was inspired by three different sources.  The first came from Nunn Design.  As you know, they help make some pretty cool boho jewelry.  I really loved came  the beautifully embroidered jewelry I wrote about here.

Then Becky Nunn sent me some of the US made findings needed for review and to have fun with! The full range of retail embroidery jewelry findings can be purchased directly from Nunn Design.  All of these are metal as opposed to wood. This makes smaller daintier designs possible.
