I am definitely hyperventilating just looking at the picture. This fabulous tourmaline giveaway is from Szarka (Dianne) Carter of Magpie Gemstones. Tourmaline is a much sought after gemstone because it comes in a wonderful array of colors. The most prized colors are green and deep pink - watermelon tourmaline (see my past post below).
I've never been able to afford more than tourmaline chips. But one lucky winner is going to receive these Grade A tourmaline tear drops - 42 of them all! These are drilled end to end and are 9mm long by 7.5mm wide. A conservative market price for them is $100. The gorgeous pink Grade AA tourmaline cabochon measures 20 by 15mm and 9mm thick and is valued at a minimum of $45. The combined value of this giveaway is at least $145!
I first came across Szarka some years ago through her inspirational jewelry blog and have since featured her designs as well as her wonderful video tutorials.
She has been a wire work and gemstone artisan for almost 2 decades and it shows. She was born in Alberta but is now based in Texas. Her blog also tells the story of how she went full circle from studying geology, to social work, to selling crafts and gemstones from a customized pink school bus all over the US to her business today.
Shown here are a few of my favorites from the many featured on Szarka's blog. She says it's a place "where I hide the jewelry my fingers make from the images of my soul."
Her journey as a wire artisan has taught her many things. She adds, "Wire is the ultimate way to discover humility. If I approach it with a feeling of smugness or surety it teaches me quickly that it is in charge. If I cajole, beg and hope it will do what I want it to, most times now it will listen. Not always though. It is kind of like life."

Beautiful stones and Szarka does the coolest work!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fab giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI do love tourmaline, not least because of the rainbow of colours it can be found in. My tiny stash of tourmaline includes brownish black coin beads with a cat's eye effect, a strand of smooth briolettes in watermelon tourmaline, schörl chips and tiny flat drops of dravite.
Appearantly it's a symbol for inspiration and in crystal healing it's sometimes said to attract inspiration/inspire creativity -- so it sounds like a good idea to have some in the bead stash, doesn't it? ;)
I'm also a blog follower.
Szarka totally rocks! (Pun intended!)
ReplyDeleteI heard about this blog from her email and have now liked/bookmarked/subscribed to the feed. So I've already won, even if these gorgeous tourmalines don't find their way to my studio. Thanks, Szarka!

Tourmaline is one of the gemstones that has always "spoken" to me, along with Amethyst, Garnet and Sapphires. It reaches out and pulls at me to buy it ... I have chips and a few rondelles and small beads - and I've been looking for something worthy to fulfill their potential - I think Szarka found it for me!
ReplyDeleteShe is always helpful, cheerful, incredibly knowledgeable and makes me feel like a treasured friend instead of just a customer. I wish I could afford to buy more of her treasures - so I try to save up for them. Unfortunately, replacing keyboards damaged by drooling does cut into my funds regularly.
I've just signed up to follow your blog, and Facebook page - With the quality and quantity of posts, I can tell I'm going to spend a lot of time here - and enjoy every minute of it!

ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautiful gemstones! Thank you Magpie for the give away and to Pearl for her fabulous blog!!
ReplyDeleteAmazing, fabulous stones! What divine wirework.
ReplyDeleteThe first real gift I got from my man (we will have been together 8 years next month) was a multi stone tourmaline and sterling silver cuff. We both waited tables, and shared a tiny twin bed, but it was plenty big for us then. ;) One day he woke up before I did and left for a while. When he returned, he woke me up trying to shove the unyeilding cuff on my wrist. I woke up saying "ow,ow, ow, ouch!" I looked at what was causing the pain and immediately forgot my discomfort. :) I have worn it every day since. :)
Tourmaline is very dear to my heart. :)
I, too love Szarka's work - have for years - would love to win these gorgeous tourmalines!
ReplyDeleteThanks to both of you for this giveaway!

ReplyDeleteSzarka, Thanks for all you do for your clients, friends and for others! You are an inspiration! :)
ReplyDeleteI love Szarka's work and her beads! She always carries a premium grade of stones, findings, etc. I have purchased from her store and hope to win this wonderful prize.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more. Her gemstones offerings and jewelry are really a fantastic source of drool-worthy eye candy! I am always impressed by her selections- they are so uncommon, so I purchase from her when I have need of something extra special. I have always been gun-shy with turquoise but not anymore; her knowledge and efforts to educate jewelry artists and enthusiasts alike is a goal I strive to follow. Her shoes are great (NO, she doesn't have big feet) and she does have a great big heart- thank you Szarka!
ReplyDeleteOh I love Szarka's gemmies and I am in total awe of her work.
