If you thought resin was only to be poured into bezels or on top of flat components, think again! You can indeed make 3D resin jewelry pieces. Just check out Little Windows, where owner Fran shares some really cool resin tutorials. I previously shared her bendy resin ring and 3D resin jewelry tutorials here. She now has a video tutorial which shows how you can make twisted resin jewelry.
These ribbon like curls are formed when the resin has cured for just 12 hours and is still pliable enough to tape into place for the rest of the curing step.
The 3D technique can be applied in other imaginative ways. I love the 3D resin pumpkin idea. Maybe a bit early for Halloween but I also see an apple as alternative! Check out Fran's post and tutorial for creating it.
She also has this suggestion for a Christmas ornament :
I previously reviewed some of the supplies from Little Windows. Since then, I have purchased the silicone doming tray which does indeed make clean up easy because nothing sticks to it. Just pop out the oopsies when they are dried.
Their resin formulation is also very different from others in that the proportion you use is not the typical 1:1. Much less of the B component is used. If you do not make resin jewelry very often, their resin might be the way to go as Little Windows does sell just the B component if you need to replace it. No other resin supplier does this. Unfortunately there is a shorter shelf life for ANY brand of resin B component (resin and resin clay) so it seems a waste to throw away both A and B just because B has yellowed or deteriorated.
I have tested out their resin since my previous post. Works well. Follow the instructions - I found stirring slowly helps avoid bubbles. I also found the mixed resin less viscous than other brands so go carefully when first pouring.

ReplyDeleteHi Pearl,
ReplyDeleteThank you SO VERY MUCH for sharing Little Windows' site again. I missed it the first go around.
I just designed a piece that I want to do in resin but not use a bezel either. I am also using super rare resin and I think that Little Windows' advice is exactly what I need right now.
As always thank you for the giveaways. They are extremely generous of you to do for us.

I was just going to go to their store today and place an order! What a coincidence!!
ReplyDeleteI had planned on picking up a doming tray and some resin combos. Now that it is sort of warming up here I thought that I might be able to do some resin work without worrying about the temps overnight. That being said it dropped to 2C the last two nights so maybe I'll have to wait a couple more weeks. Still want to have my supplies on hand for when I can.
Now the question is - can you mix their product with others? I have some Ice Resin
sitting here and I don't know how long I've had it. It might have yellowed .....
I'm defintely going to use the code and place my order....I know how my luck runs! :0)
Alas no. You should not mix different formulations - the resin may not set.
DeleteJust starting in resin and would love to win this!!
