How inspiring when wire work designers come up with new ways to wire wrap cabochons. These two tutorials by OxanaCrafts show you that you can wrap them in different ways and with a minimalist style. Her first tutorial works best for tear drop cabochons caged with the point at the bottom. Make sure the wire work is tight if you are using oval cabochons as the stone could drop out.
If you look closely at the 3 final design pictures, you will notice she finished the bails differently too. I love the Art Deco look with the angular wire work in the front!
I also love the simplicity of this second tutorial of hers. This design really showcases a beautiful gemstone as much of the front is not obscured. The backbone of the piece reminds me of prong set wire work.
Her third tutorial has minimal banding - only at the bottom. People often band at the bottom and sides. But she makes the cage secure with extra wire work at the back.

I like these designs. The flat square wire looks great against the stone.
ReplyDeleteI agree. The square wire does make a difference in the designs.
