"To teach is to learn twice"
- Joseph Joubert, French author (1755-1824)
In 2006, I was fortunate enough to find a great venue for workshops for the truly addicted who need to feed that addiction often! These workshops also suit beaders are unable or unwilling to host beading parties in their homes but who appreciate comfortable and private surroundings.
The Cole Harbour Heritage Farm Museum's quaint Rose and Kettle Tearoom is a wonderful sunlit room with long tables that can hold the huge combined collection of beads and gemstones of Pearl,The Beading Gem and her friend and fellow beadaholic, Debbie, Widget's Beads. The photo on the left shows a typical workshop. Our nearly monthly sessions are typically on a Sunday afternoon from 1-5m. Please check the current schedule. Workshops only run during the Farm's off-season months.
There is a $5 entrance fee for the Farm Museum who provides some light refreshments during the afternoon. The Farm kitchen offers some very yummy home-baked goods. Otherwise, the format is pretty much the same as for a beading party. The beaders only pay for what they make. There is a discount for multiple projects. Beaders are not obliged to stay the whole time but please do if you are on a roll! The finished jewelry on display is for instruction and sale. Drop-in visitors are welcome at any time if you wish to see what it is all about. We hope you will come to bead next time. There is no fee for a look or browse but the refreshments will be limited to the beaders.
When the farm is open during the warm months, we run a small craft program (no entrance fee) in Giles House which is the small house next to the Tearoom. Younger children are welcome to bead then too - from plastic and acrylic beads for nominal sums. Drop in for a quick beading fix and you will be treated to tea.
As many of you already know, we may also be able to help you repair your own jewelry. So don't throw away broken but treasured jewelry - they may still be wearable. Or something you have that needs revamping and updating. There is a very reasonable charge for this service, the cost depends on how much replacement material you use.
Do come along and join fellow beadaholics! Bring a friend or two. Please either call the Farm or email me if you are intending to come to the next workshop or if you need further information. Private group workshops can also be arranged.
There is even an email alert service one week before a workshop - just email me to add you to the group email.
