Paper Jewelry Part 3 of 3
Traditional roll paper beads
The most popular way of making paper beads is by rolling a long triangle strip of paper. However, even though the basic technique is easy, there are many ways to personalize the beads. Check out the tutorials below.
Sharon Paradiso of Seedlings: Jewelry Because produced this beautiful and thorough tutorial on how to make a lariat style necklace with vintage music paper beads and wire (link no longer works). If you need to know how to make a treble clef in wire, definitely check it out.
I really liked Go Make Something's rolled paper beads tutorial because she makes it look so Japanese. Embossing ink was used but her idea of adding metallic embroidery thread was inspiring! She includes many tips and other suggestions.
Being Natasha Fialkov takes it one level up with her how to adorn paper beads tutorial using modge podge, decoupage glue, glittery stuff, paint and whatever strikes your fancy. (link no longer works)
Do the paper strips have to have straight edges? Nope. Just check out designarob's tutorial on Instructables.com and see how using a zig zab blade on a paper cutter gives a whole new look to traditional rolled paper beads.
If you make the strips very narrow, you get spacer beads! This tutorial from the Paper Beads site also suggests you use nail polish to finish them.
MissVan722 on Craftster has an easy paper roll bracelet tutorial. She uses newspaper and modge podge.
Round Beads
A Storybook Life's friend Helen gave her the recipe and tutorial to make these cool round paper beads. Via
iHanna of Creative Space blog has an alternative round bead tutorial where she makes paper mache beads. She drills the holes after the beads are dried. The embellishment step is what takes the longest.
The coiled paper pendant by Diane Gilleland on Craftstylish is clever because you can either build a multi coiled design or add internal coils for different looks.
Paper bead threader earrings
One lovely way to showcase your paper beads is to put them at the end of threader earring findings. Check out the tutorial from the Paper Beads blog.
