Part 3 of 3
Many wire artisans make fun and funky bird's nest earrings and pendants. They are easy to make and very forgiving if you aren't a strong wire worker.
There are different ways to wrap and weave the wire so be sure to check out these tutorials and follow the suggestions by the instructors.
The wired bird's nest can be really lovely with the right sort of beads and some artistic interpretations of the wire work. Just check out Cathe Hoden of the Just Something I made blog's tutorial for the nest you see at the top. She used her bird's nest for her craft designs but they are easily convertible into jewelry designs. For necklaces, simply attach with a jump ring or also add a bail.
Earrings
Gail over at the Can't Stop Making Things blog designed the tutorial for these nests. As she pointed out, it makes a great Easter gift. Her technique differs from the others as she uses several shorter lengths of wire rather than one long one like the other instructors.
Ring
If you prefer to make a bird's nest ring, then check out the video tutorial by Denise Mathew. She makes the bird's nest first before wrapping around the ring mandrel.
The tutorial is in 2 parts :
Part 1
Part 2

ReplyDeleteI've been wondering how to do this. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThe bird's nest tut was great. I've been creating birds nest pins for a while. Your approach is so much easier.

ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing this with us. I am already looking for something new to make for my fellow teachers for Christmas 2012. This year I made them all tied Civil War vintage fabric wreaths leaving me with LOTS of bruises and blister from all the cutting and pinking. This looks like such fun, and it also looks like something I might be able to do. Thanks for the tutorial and all the links. Have a Happy New Year filled will lots and lots of creativity and photo taking. Genie
