But it's actually very quick to create if you follow Jeanette Caines of the Jewelry Arts Institute's video tutorial entitled Make Reticulated Sheet Earrings.
It's the sort of method that will gladden the hearts of closet pyromaniacs as you get to use a torch to literally melt yourself a pair of sterling silver earrings using a thin sheet of metal.
The instructor also covers how to quickly solder the ear wire to the hoops as well as how to pickle or clean the metal with an acid solution afterwards.

Alright, that looks fun! Would have to be gentle with the flame around the outside edges so that you don't melt right through the sides. Super fast and cool looking though. Will have to give that a try!

ReplyDeleteI use a similar technique to make pendants, only I use lots and lots of scrap silver wire, and I pickle it with a solution of vinegar and salt -- which can take longer, but it works!
Things always look so easy when an expert demonstrates them. :)
ReplyDeleteThe earrings are incredible though and if I were about 30 years younger I'd seriously invest in a metal-smith course.
