Chain is a perennial favorite for a good reason. It's one of the most versatile supplies we have. Rather than use it as a plain necklace though, consider alternative ways to use chains. Be creative. Check these tutorials out for inspiration!
The bi-colored necklace tutorial shown above is by Anne who writes the Wobisobi blog. A very large antique necklace was the inspiration. Hers though is much more wearable and still packs plenty of elegance.
Another easy but elegant braided chain and cord necklace tutorial is the one by Stephanie over at Henry Happened. She was inspired by a Target design. As you can see, doubling it up makes a cool bracelet too! Make them in different colors to match outfits!
I also liked this bead and chain necklace tutorial by Rhonda over at Dollar Store Crafts. The metal chain forms waves and adds visual interest to a plain bead necklace. It was inspired by an Anthropologie design.

I love using lots of chain in designs! It is a super versatile material, and it's amazing how many different looks you can achieve, from very delicate and simple to big and bold... Love the two tone one especially :)
ReplyDeleteI really need to change my perspective about chains. The examples you gave are so fresh and new, I love them. Especially nice is the combination of cool, hard chain against the soft satin cord in Rhonda's design.
ReplyDeleteYes, many of us are stuck in the rut as far as chains are concerned so we need to break free and try new things.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great tutorial. I have been using a lot of ribbons lately and that second one is just what I have been looking for.
