Why would anyone want to fake metal in jewelry designs? Metal allergies for one thing. Just fun, for another! And perhaps because there wasn't just the metal bits needed in the supply box! One thing for sure, it takes ingenuity and unexpected materials to come up with faux metal designs.
Jeromina Juan over at her Paper, Plate and Plane blog did an amazing faux metal bib necklace design tutorial shown above. I did indeed found it hard to believe she used just brushed nickel finish Con-Tact paper and brads for her piece. I've never knew vinyl shelf liners came in such a shade.
Lauri Eaton over on the iLoveToCreate blog's tutorial used black vinyl and Tulip Fashion Glitter Holographic Transfer Sheets to create the faux metal strips in the necklace design below. I also love her earrings design! Absolutely no metal smith skills needed!
Kimberly Crawford's approach is different for her butterfly pendant. Would you have guessed it is just paper? She uses a die cutter ( for example a Sizzix) and silver foil engraving paper and cardstock for her creation. Check out her video tutorial for the basic technique

These look like fun projects, thanks Pearl :)
ReplyDeleteThe butterfly would have fooled me, it really does look like metal.
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting how many other crafts, such as paper crafts, have crossed the border into jewelry making, with so many mediums to access, making jewelry can never become stagnant, dull or boring.
Yes, they look like fun and that butterfly is so well done!
