Remember my earlier post on how to make eyeglass holders? It covered two types of eyeglass holders. I myself prefer the necklace type as it is quick and easy to just pop my reading glasses off and on. I pretty much have just the same chain on the glasses all the time. But do check out reader Margaret Schindel's tutorial on how to make a convertible eyeglass holder.
It is a very clever tip on how to make any number of necklaces into eyeglass holders simply by adding clasps to both ends of the necklace. So the clasps just attach to jump rings on the silicone eyeglass holders. When you want to wear the necklace by itself, just attach the clasps to an extra jump ring.
Her tutorial gives the step-by-step instructions on how to use clamshells to finish the ends. Great howto especially for beginners.

What a well done tutorial!
ReplyDeleteI used to have my glasses on an eyeglass holder all the time. But now that my eyes have changed so much I have to wear them all the time and I miss that fancy look of my matching string of beads attached to them.... Ah well! :0)
@aims, I'm very glad you enjoyed my convertible beaded eyeglass holder necklace tutorial! I'm sorry you aren't able to use these any more yourself, but you might consider making some as gifts. Everyone to whom I've given them really loves them.
DeletePearl, thank you SO much for featuring my convertible beaded necklace / eyeglass chain tutorial! I'm delighted that you liked it enough to feature and very grateful for the honor.

ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea, converting necklaces to eyeglass holders and back! Where do you find the "silicone eyeglass holders?" I have only found them in one place in NYC, from a Japanese company (starts with a "T" but can't remember the name) and they were expensive, about $2.00 per pair but worked very well. Any other sources?
ReplyDeleteI've had the same pair on my glasses for years. And I wear them everyday! Got the from Fire Mountain Gems.
