A few years ago, I featured an amazing artisan, Odile, who made Whimsical Zipper Brooches from zipper teeth and upcycled wool sweaters. There are different ways to make this type of design. One way was shared by Suzy Myers of Suzy's Artsy Craftsy Sitcom. Her tutorial for a Pretty Peacock Brooch uses zipper teeth and felt roving. This is the sort of tutorial which will please felting enthusiasts out there!
You are not limited to just peacocks. Try your hand at sketching out different motifs with the zipper teeth. Many designs can be adapted to becoming pendants if brooches are not your thing. Or consider getting the brooch/pendant combination finding so you don't have to make up your mind!

What a great idea! Love the up cycling approach as well.
ReplyDeleteMe, too. Think of all the accidentally shrunken wool sweaters one could use!
DeleteThis looks fine and not nearly as intimidating as I thought. I forwarded it to friends to try at our next get together.
ReplyDeleteThat should be fun session, Mary! It is always so much better when you craft with friends.
DeleteLucky I didn't sell all my wool roving! This is absolutely adorable! Hmmm....I might just be giving this a go in the future....
ReplyDeleteIt pays to be hoarder, Aims! Don't sell everything as many things have their uses.
DeletePearl, what a delightful tutorial. The brooch is so precious and I could hardly believe how jewel like the zipper teeth look. The metal zipper went from being just a utilitarian object to becoming a tiny treasure.
