I am in awe of jewelry designers and artists who can incorporate architectural elements into their work.  Guido Graeff, a German based goldsmith is the latest one I have come across.  (The work of the other outstanding designers in the links below are must see!).  His video shows how he makes an amazing medieval arcade gem setting for beautiful pendants!

Arcades were particularly popular during the medieval period. An arcade is a succession of arches, each counter-thrusting the next, supported by columns, piers, or a covered walkway. Shops may line either side of the arcade.  A couple of examples are :

Bonne-Espérance Abbey, Belgium

Gallery with arcades  in a High Medieval Square, Metz, France

What Guido Graeff does is awe-inspiring as he translates those arcades in his bezel design.  This screen capture from his video shows you the actual size he is working with.

This talented metal smith works with ancient techniques although he does use some modern tools too!
