Safety pin jewelry is not new, especially to fans of  jewelry designer, Tom Binns. However, Tamiko Kawata, a Japanese artist now living in the US takes the humble safety pin to new heights.  Her sculptural wearable art uses the pins as building blocks!

Her innovative way of grouping the pins together, sometimes using two colors, makes a statement!  From Egyptian style collars to long cascading pieces, her imagination is boundless.

You can see more on her work on Artsy.net.  The artist is represented by the Garvey|Simon Gallery in New York.
