Beaders everywhere love to try new patterns and tutorials which grab their interest. But not everyone beads all the time. So remembering how to bead some stitches might be a bit fuzzy.
So a good reference book on hand is a good thing. It saves you having to fire up the computer or turning on your mobile device and spending time to look for a suitable tutorial.
One of the most popular books I ever reviewed (see here) has to be the Bead Stitching Handbook published by Kalmbach Media. New subscribers and readers may have missed it but here is another chance for every one to learn more about this helpful book and perhaps win a copy.

There is even a handy chart which gives you size equivalents if you want to opt for thread or cord rather than Fireline. For instance, 6lb Fireline will be equivalent to thread size 00.
I cannot remember the names of some of the newer multi-hole Czech beads - Chexx? Quadralentil? eMMA? If you are like me, the 3 pages showing different types of beads are so helpful!
The handbook is thorough with its coverage of bead stitches. For example, the section on Bead Embroidery, two full pages cover the types of stitches. There is more to this technique than just backstitching and couching!
Some lovely projects are included in the last section of the book. One innovative design is this peyote bracelet with gemstone chips :
I highly recommend getting this reference guide if you are a bead stitcher. New beaders will find their learning curve is less steep plus they will see what else lies in the beading world. Seasoned beaders will find having this guide handy for all kinds of reminders and tips.

This book is just in time for the fall. I would love to add this to my library.
ReplyDeleteI am just starting out as beader and I love it but I am just learning the stitches..This book would be the perfect book for me to learn. thank you for the chance to win this book
ReplyDeleteA book to remind me of stitches I have learned and not need to search how to do the twisted herringbone stitch after not making one in a few years- and all the stitches I never learned. Sounds very helpful.
ReplyDeleteI've wondered if there was a collection out there of stitches to help with beading. I found beading about a year ago and now wonder how did I let this pass me by for so long. This book would help me as learn to create my own pieces. It's not easy figuring out how to get the look I see in my mind's eye. This would help enormously! maggiehall@hotmail.com

Thank you so much for such a wonderful giveaway. It would be great to have all the information on beads, needles, stitches concisely in one place , so there is more time to bead. The diagrams look easy to follow, and I would love to win this one. Faithful Facebook and blog follower, tigers628@hotmail.com
ReplyDeleteGiveaway is a great idea but I have a question. If you enter with an email account is your address going to be visible to everyone.
ReplyDeleteSure. My email is visible on my site and I use spam filters on my email account. If you are concerned, link to an online presence or write out the email as for example, name (at) email dot com - to thwart bot readers. Otherwise, trying to notify a winner becomes difficult. Many winners never responded to my announcement posts so they forfeited their prizes as I had to redraw.
DeleteWhat a fantastic book! I have been beading for several years now, but want to continue to learn new skills and polish the ones I already have. It is an amazing resource for all the little refined bits of information that will help me to continue to improve the items I create. Beading has become my passion!
ReplyDeleteWow! This sounds like just the beading reference book I need. I'd love to win a copy. Prydeebie@gmail.com
