I sometimes wish I lived closer to Montreal's Garment District. The apparel industry moved around in the past but is now located in rue Chabanal, just north of the city center. Open to the public, this area is full of manufacturers, suppliers etc. Montreal is a lovely city to visit - a little slice of Paris in Canada - but this gem of an area should also be on any smart shopper's list.

But what to do if you can't visit? If you are into leather jewelry making, then check out Montrealer, Johanne Phillips' MoxiesLeather!

Johanne has tons of pre cut leather teardrops in all sorts of prints and colors. Just add your own touch with beads or chains and findings for custom earrings!

I particularly love the metallic leather offerings!

I was amazed to learn that a box cutter type knife is used to cut the various shapes. Johanne supplies an 18 piece tracing set made out of thick leather for those interested in cutting their own shapes.  The cutter is not supplied but is easily available from hardware stores.

There is a large variety of sheet leather to choose from!

Also available are cords and fringe leather cuts as well as tassels and hairy leather cuffs!
