Do you, as a handmade jewelry maker, find you wish that your findings were handmade too? If so, there are a couple of wonderful metalsmiths who could fulfill that need! She is Joanna Jelen and her husband Steve who now live in Oregon and run PacificSilverworks.
They are quite an international couple. Joanna is originally from Peru and Steve is from England. They started their jewelry business after they met in Seville, Spain many years ago.
Steve said :
We taught ourselves mostly but also learned from artists we met on our travels. We’ve traveled extensively over the years in Asia, South America, Europe etc and we hope to get back to that once the pandemic allows.
So, we’ve been in business as Pacific Silverworks since the 90’s designing and producing high quality silver components for jewelry designers. We owned a gallery and bead store in California for many years and now, since we moved to Oregon, sell online through our own website and Etsy as well as a few in person events such as Tucson.
Our Etsy store, although we’ve been open since 2012, we mostly neglected till the pandemic but once we began actually paying attention to it and also promoting it, has really taken off. More than 90% of our sales have come in the last 18 months.
Joanna designs most of the products herself and, really for herself, as she also makes much of our finished jewelry but we also have a workshop at home where we produce our Savannah Design Studio line (sold wholesale mostly to galleries and stores).
They have some really unique handmade sterling silver and gold plated bronze findings - sure to please exacting designers. These are not cast but worked metal designs. Shown here are some of my favorites. Her bird ear wires and flower toggle clasps are notable!
