Most of us are familiar with wide Egyptian collars. But the Ukrainians also have the tradition of wearing wide beaded net necklaces. Called "kryza", these necklaces can come in different widths. The word kryza comes from the German word "kreis" which means circle.
Ukrainian artisan, Oleg of StanUAJewelry makes stunning ones. I love how these can be worn over dresses, sweaters and even under jackets.
There are some tutorials for earrings, bracelets, chokers and a kryza so you can make your own!

They sure are beautiful! I would never have thought to wear one over a turtleneck and I love that idea! This is something that Wayne Wiley excels at!
ReplyDeleteI have made 10 of these beautiful creations. If you are going to make one yourself, be prepared to spend at 80+ hours to complete each and each of the collars require at least 160 GRAMS of beads. Having said that, they are worth the effort and there is at least one author who sells a book with 10 patterns and kits of the beads necessary to complete them.
