Mandalas can be created using many media including beads!  I like this one by Agata of Royal Stone for a couple of reasons.  She used wooden discs in between  two mandalas. The wooden disc is a strong base. You could also do two different color combinations for a reversible pendant.

The tutorial is in  3 parts. The first shows you how to construct the mandala itself.  The second part shows the diagrams for different patterns.

The third part covers a bail design as well as the beaded tubes to decorate what is an adjustable cord necklace :

You can also use a straight beaded tube for the bail if you prefer.

Some of the wood shows in the middle of the mandala. Glue or stitch in Swarvoski montee of the right size if you wish to cover the hole. Montees have 4 holes.

The tutorials are in Polish. So either use Google Translate or follow my favorite method. For computer users, use the Chrome browser, right click and select translate to English. For mobile device users, use the Chrome app (free) and agree to the translation when asked.
