Steampunk style robot charm necklaces are so much fun. Many of you thought so too when you saw my feature on awesome robot jewelry designers . There are quite a few benefits to these robot charms. First, they are unisex. Secondly, you can use charms, wire, beads, bought or recycled hardware items.

The robots are usually wood based with the metallic elements screwed on.  @Deuxperhandicrafts has a number of tutorials where he demonstrates how to make robot charms.

The basic steps are covered in this video for an angel robot pendant charm. These includes sanding the small wooden blocks. A drill with a very small drill bit is used to prepare the holes where the screws are going to be,

You can vary the charms, even colour or stain the wood. You are only limited by your imagination. Here is a quick video featuring many different pendant necklace designs from the artisan.

He also demonstrates how to make robot angel charms! These use just a single wooden cube. You can certainly customize them with smaller metal charms for other themes like the "repairman" or "musician" as shown in the top music.

Amazing Humanoid Robot Martial Arts Show

This incredible video of humanoid robots in a Martial Arts gala show celebrating the Spring (Chinese New Year) Festival is currently going viral. It is NOT AI generated but a live performance.

No wonder! The precision and synchronization of these robots performing various martial arts and acrobatics alongside boys is awe inspiring. The robots also use objects such as sticks and nunchakus. They can somersault, vault and even perform parkour. Beautiful choreography and presentation. Impressive balance sensing and rapid compensation.  Look carefully at the feet - sometimes the odd robot makes a slight correction on landing. Just like a human would!

Aerial flips, self righting from a prone position, interacting so closely with the children including handling the same sticks - all of which are challenging things for robots to do. Performed here with ease.

They definitely kept the large sword welding robot doing its moves well away from the kids as a safety precaution!

Unitree Robotics have vastly improved from the clunky and rigid performance robots at last year's gala (see video). LiveScience reported :
Company representatives said the improvements result from artificial intelligence (AI) improvements alongside new lidar (light detection and ranging) processing, alongside mechanical upgrades to the robots themselves. They represent an advancement in the field of embodied AI, in which scientists attempt to give robots tools to better understand and navigate the physical world.

This video shows how the robots were trained again and again to perform individually, in groups, with held objects, choreographed to music - all without human operators. The process is rather like how athletes and dancers train with repetition and increasing refinement with time.

China has deemed robots the new engine of growth. Their economic plans include being the world leader of robotics by 2027. This will be during in their 15th 5-year plan develop socially and economically especially in the areas of environmental protection, education and industrial policy.

Humanoid robots are definitely going to be part of the manufacturing future. Automation in the long term is likely the solution of population decline which is now happening worldwide. The future labour shortage will be particularly acute in Asia by the next generation (assuming there is no immigration).

Fertility rate is the number of children for every woman. South Korea, for example, has a fertility rate of only 0.7 which is far below the replacement rate of 2.1, the rate to replace both parents and allow for child mortality. China and Singapore's rate is 1.0 and Japan's rate is about 1.2. In comparison, Canada's rate is 1.3 and the US, 1.6. Germany's is at 1.4.

The 5 most automated economies in the world are South Korea, China, Singapore, Germany and Japan. South Korea has the most robots - about 1000 per 10,000 workers. The number of robots there is increasing at a rate of 5 % per year since 2018, which is what their high tech and auto industries need.
