Shell mosaics are exactly as their name implies - little pieces of shells put together to form a bigger piece.

This one was so pretty in pink, Liz decided she didn't want anything else with it. So the pendant was put on a long eye pin and wire wrapped for use with a chain Liz already had.

Artisans from Santo Domingo, one of the largest Rio Grande Pueblos in New Mexico make beautiful shell and gemstone mosaics. They are also known for their tiny handmade heishi beads.

Their inlaid pieces often feature turquoise on shell bases. An example is these turquoise, shell and lapis lazuli mosaic inlay earrings by Angie Reano-Owen. Another of her designs is made from turquoise, shell, coral and lapis lazuli.
