Yvonne designed this charming blue necklace and bracelet using a very pale shade of blue. Her pendant was made using a single Chinese porcelain bead. Her spacer beads though did just the trick to make her creations unique - she used triangular inside colour lined beads with goldish hints with gold bugles.
My dilemma was in selecting the background to showcase her designs. They both looked good to me so I decided to show the pair. The left one gave a good contrast to the blues and golds wherease the one of the right was almost similar in that it was a greyish blue. Yet, the one of the right seemed to have a sharper outline. Which do you think was better?

I can't choose between them. I think sometimes it's really obvious, like not displaying dark beaded jewelry on a dark background. But I find a lot of pieces look so different on different backgrounds - I frequently will photograph the same piece on a few different backgrounds and show 4 or 5 pictures in my Etsy shop (well - not lately) that look different.
ReplyDeleteEmail from Maude -The one on the left has the wrong color background..comes across as harsh and overrides the delicate colors of the piece..maybe a softer color that would enhance the hues of the blues..
ReplyDeleteLove your gems..thanks..Maude
Without seeing the actual piece I would think the one on the left looks better. However, it is a tough choice. My picure taking sometimes leaves me wondering too. The phrase "photoshopped" has such meaning sometimes. And that is with the same picture not different backgrounds.

That's two on the fence and one for each photo background so far. So the jury is still out!!
