Wordcraft Part 2 of 3
I have loved books ever since I could read although I now don't devour them as fast as I used to when I was younger. They are still my primary source of information - the internet notwithstanding - and pleasure with well crafted stories and articles. Although there are now plenty of electronic literature some even with clickable page turning, these can't truly replace the feel of paper, the physical act of turning a page and the smell of an old book.
So imagine my delight when I came across The Black Spot Books' amazing Library of antique and scrap leather book necklace on Etsy. Margaux makes miniature books out of archival quality drawing paper covered with antiqued or worn leather scraps. Get this - her books are all hand sewn from hand torn paper using archival linen binder's thread! They are quite robust.
You can buy the necklace as a whole but she also sells her book necklaces individually. I like this one which was made from a piece of antique leather from an old doctor's bag she found in an abandoned house!
She clearly appreciates old things! All her book necklaces are one of a kind but you can specify what colors you'd like the leather to be.

ReplyDeleteCheers
Some people are incredibly creative - doing something new and novel. That's why I write about them because they are so inspiring and I hope everyone will be encouraged to step outside our comfort zones.
ReplyDeleteThese books are awesome! I've recently made faux leather mini book charms from polymer clay. Never thought to put real pages in them. That is a great idea!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful idea! Love these miniature books with their vintage feel.
