Keeping clasps to the back

Neck wires are inexpensive. They make great gifts if you know several budding fashionistas or need something quick and easy to make for your craft table. What I didn't realize until I had made several pendants for them was that the clasps tends to migrate to the front.


So here is a really simple project to anchor them in the front using buttons. This contemporary style design can be fun and funky using big bold buttons as shown below. Or make them into Sparkles on Wire using Swarovksi buttons.

I chose a couple of gorgeous Swarovski buttons - the square as well as the round one - from Art Beads's Swarovski Crystal Components section. Whilst you're there you might like to check out the droolworthy Swarovski crystal beads ,pendants and their new additions too.

First cut a piece of wire. I used 20G. Mold it around a pen so you can easily feed the U shaped piece through the holes without kinking the wire in odd places.

Line up the holes with the wire at a position directly opposite the clasp.

Do a couple of wraps around the neck wire with each end of the wire. Keep the holes parallel to the wire at all times. Then trim each wire so there is just enough length to do a small scroll to tuck it in. And that's it!  The light wire wrapping stops the focal from moving so the clasp has no opportunity to move towards the front. Yet, it will be just loose enough to move it along if it is not central enough.

One last thing, add more than one if you're in the mood to bedazzle!
