Celebrity Jewelry Part 1 of 2
The serpent has been a powerful symbol for thousands of years for many cultures and features in many myths. The Ancient Egyptians considered the snake sacred and the motif appears in jewelry and on the Pharaoh's crown. Snakes are still popular in jewelry design in modern times - see my past post on WireBliss Mei's incredible cobra bracelet.
The latest snake jewelry collection launched earlier this week, the brainchild of celebrity couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. She is shown on the right wearing a serpent bracelet at the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA)back in February.
The gemstone studded line is called Protector because Jolie was given a serpent ring when she was carrying her daughter Shiloh in 2006 and regarded it as a talisman to keep her family safe. The collaborative effort took a year and now the jewelry is available from the British jeweler Asprey.
There's not just gold and silver jewelry for both men and women but other items like egg cups and baby spoons with serpentine handles ($525) are also included. The net proceeds from the collection will benefit the Education Partnership for Children of Conflict which was co-founded by Jolie.

These are lovely to look at but I'm not sure if I would want to wear them...I have a terrible fear of snakes... :0)
ReplyDeleteCheers
i heard about these on the radio! i actually think the ring looks very good.
ReplyDeleteThe jewelry collection is very good. But I admit I'm not fond of real snakes myself but I'm okay with serpents in jewelry!
ReplyDeleteI remember hearing that Angelina was going to be doing jewelry -what a shock that was -a celebrity putting out a jewelry line?! :-)
ReplyDeleteBut her serpent line seems to be interesting and not gaudy like I thought it would be like.
