Many readers were charmed by the family business with Cabbing Rough's Giveaway Cabochon post. It also brought home how much effort and skill it takes to make a hand cut cabochon.

Some of the commentators were already fans of this store. Ah, there were also those who confessed they were magpies of beautiful gemstones. One wanted it for her rock garden. Another ruefully regretted she couldn't get her husband interested in cabbing!

The red dryhead agate cabochon shown here for the giveaway is just gorgeous. But the family do make other lovely cabochons which you can see if you check out their Etsy store. Some are rather landscape like.  Shown below are some of my favorites.

There are three popular ways to incorporate cabochons into jewelry - wire wrapping, bezel set cabochons and bead work (see tutorial links below). So the winner of this cabochon giveaway will have to choose the technique!

And who might that be? I used random.org to choose from large number of comments, allowing for extra entries. The lucky winner is Linda Kish.  She said , " I have always loved rocks and gemstones. At one time, my son wanted to get into the business but couldn't afford school."  Congratulations!  Even if you did not get a lapidarist in your family, you can enjoy making something lovely from this cabochon.

Didn't win? Then check out Cabbing Rough's new monthly $50 certificate contest. All seven members of their family vote to pick the winner!
