It's almost the end of 2010! What could be more fitting than one of Margot Potter's favorite mixed media As Time Goes By Necklace?
Thanks for the memory, Margot! I am glad you re-featured your tutorial again this year for it is a timeless design.
I just love her use of a silhouette picture to add to the design's yesteryear charm. She gives the free source of the image in her instructions but you could also make your own silhouette. Just check out the link below.
The inspiration for her necklace came from the feature song "As time goes by" in the classic movie Casablanca. Here is a video of Rosemary Clooney (George Clooney's aunt) singing this sultry song.
Happy New Year, everyone !

My FAVORITE thing about this necklace is the asymmetrical design with the clasp right there by the focal. Such moves have always struck me as bold and courageous. I'm also adoring the second focal above the clasp, with the words on it. These kinds of pieces definitely make you reconsider the traditional idea of a necklace. :) Thanks for posting this!
ReplyDeleteThank so for the linky love, I'm honored. Have a most auspicious New Year!
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Margot
You hit it on the nail, jamberry_song! There are other wonderful strong elements to the necklace design which makes it such a good one.
ReplyDeleteI hope everyone will have a wonderful new year! Pearl
great neckpiece and Happy New Year Pearl...a good year's work done :)
ReplyDeleteThat is so pretty! I like the second focal as well, I've never been that brave.
ReplyDeleteHappiest of New Years to you Pearl!
Well I started out on this post but had to check out your "How to make a silhouette portrait pendant", so now I have returned. The necklace featured has so many great elements to it and though the silhouette pendant is beautiful, the thing I like most is the asymmetrical symmetry of it ( yes, I know that sounds like an oxymoron doesn't it?). I've always be drawn to asymmetrical designs but seldom create them. I really need to get out of this symmetrical rut and spread my wings, thanks for helping us be more open minded to trying things a bit outside of our "comfort zone". :)
ReplyDeleteForgot to mention that Rosemary Clooney's video is great, thanks for the memories. It's been a long time since I've seen that young of a Rosemary, she and Gisèle MacKenzie were top female vocalist in my childhood, wonder whatever happen to Gisèle after "Your Hit Parade" went off the air?
ReplyDeleteYeah, I am still working on leaving my comfort zone! No idea what happened to Gisèle MacKenzie.
