Tucson is THE place to go if you love beads, gems and minerals. It's bead heaven for sure because literally thousands of participants from around the world congregate in some 40 sites around the city. Every available space is taken up - tents, meeting centers, hotels. Some dealers even sell directly from their hotel rooms!
Artbeads is having a fabulous "Road to Tucson" Sweepstakes- a round-trip airfare for two to Tucson, Arizona and 3 nights accommodation to attend the 2012 Gem, Mineral and Fossil Showcase (January 28- February 12). The winner will also attend classes with well-known beading instructors and have access to the biggest shows.
This sweepstakes is open to US and Canadian residents (excluding Quebec) age 18 and up. Entry deadline is March 16, 2011 at 11:59pm PT.
It's a wonderful prize because with all the traveling, classes and show attendance expenses already paid for, the budget for beads will definitely be much larger!
Check out this video which shows a jewelry making couple shopping for gemstones to make their inlaid silver jewelry in last year's show. The video also shows the amazing sculpture of the US Capitol made of thousands of Akoya pearls.

Wouldn't that be the perfect trip Pearl? I would love to attend someday...
ReplyDeleteCheers
Why, oh WHY do I have to live in the UK?!
ReplyDeleteGreat video! This sounds like an awesome event.. Maybe I can find a way to get to Tucson.
ReplyDeleteWell, Debbie and I are entering the sweepstakes. If either of us wins, we will be going sans husbands!
ReplyDeleteIt's the event I've always longed to attend. I've listened to others exclaim how magnificent it is, how grand, huge, enormous, absolutely mind boggling ! Jewels, beads, gemstones everywhere, for blocks and blocks in all directions. But I've never made it to a show. :(
ReplyDeleteI watched the video and drooled over the displays of turquoise and especially the Mediterranean coral (holy moly can't imagine how much that must cost). Would love to purchase one of the large crystal orbs that Brazil Exportadora sells, perhaps it could help me predict my future...but then maybe it's best that I don't know that. :)
If you win (and I wish you much luck) please have a margarita for me while you're there. ;)
Oh no. I would be broke when I came home, worse than Vegas!
ReplyDeleteOh I am crossing my fingers on this one. One reason that I have never gone is the fact that buy the time I pay for airfare & classess, I wouldn't be able to afford beads. That would just be too depressing.
ReplyDeleteThat would be really fun to go to!
