Inspiring Beaders
Part 1 of 2
Did you see the movie " Julie and Julia?" I did and thoroughly enjoyed the big screen version of Julie Powell's book, Julie and Julia: My Year of Cooking Dangerously. It's based on her blog which chronicles the 365 days she took to cook her way through Julia Child's Mastering the Art of French Cooking.

Well, I was equally delighted to come across a non-calorie version - a 365 day bead weaving journal by one of my blog readers, Mandy Duff. Mandy started her Beads for Brains :365 blog to mark her passage through "365 days of a beginning beader's self-taught lessons."

The inspiration for her beading adventure came not from Julie Powell but from artist Noah Scalin's book,  365: A Daily Creativity Journal: Make Something Every Day and Change Your Life! It's based on his amazingly creative blog, A Skull a Day which started with a simple orange cut paper skull.

Mandy's blog is no less creative as she writes about the stitches she has learned, her beading experiences, who taught her and even where she learned the stitch or project from - books, classes and online tutorials. See this gorgeous beaded ring below? She made it after seeing the tutorial link on my post, How to Make Ladder Stitched Beaded Rings.

Mandy said on her blog, "Hopefully 365 days from now, I will be at the least a capable beader, or at the most something better. :-)"  As you can see from her Namaste Creations designs shown here, she is already well on the way to becoming a super beader and it's only Day 85 so far.

Both Julie Powell and Noah Scalin got book deals after writing their marathon chronicles. So who knows where all this will lead to, Mandy?
