Elizabeth Taylor's fabulous jewelry collection set a world record yesterday when it fetched a total of $115 million.  It way surpassed Christie's estimate of "more than $30 million".

It's an incredible sum considering it was from a single owner.  Some of her best pieces commanded the highest prices.

The historic La Peregrina pearl necklace with several centuries of history was sold for $11.8 million. Richard Burton paid $37,000 for it back in 1969 as a Valentine's Day gift.  She briefly misplaced it and had to rescue it from her little dog who thought it was a chew toy!

The virtually flawless 33-carat Krupp diamond ring now dubbed the Elizabeth Taylor ring, went for $8.8 million. It was also given by Richard Burton. The occasion? Because it was a Tuesday.

Check out this recent CBS video (click to go to Youtube) about the auction with clips of her wearing the HUGE Krupp diamond ring. She wore almost daily for 40 years. Elizabeth Taylor referred to the facets of the diamond as "steps to eternity".  A celestial collection indeed!

  1. It is unbelievable really! That was some gorgeous bling!

  2. Liz was undoubtedly the Queen of Bling. She knew the "good stuff" and had a way of always getting the best and most expensive gemstones. That ring is truly something else, it is so huge I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to lift my hand if I tried to wear it ... not that I could ever be so lucky as to have the opportunity to try it on. lol

  3. It's a lot of money but I'm not really surprised. She had a heck of a lot of hefty bling!
