The historic La Peregrina pearl necklace with several centuries of history was sold for $11.8 million. Richard Burton paid $37,000 for it back in 1969 as a Valentine's Day gift. She briefly misplaced it and had to rescue it from her little dog who thought it was a chew toy!

Check out this recent CBS video (click to go to Youtube) about the auction with clips of her wearing the HUGE Krupp diamond ring. She wore almost daily for 40 years. Elizabeth Taylor referred to the facets of the diamond as "steps to eternity". A celestial collection indeed!

ReplyDeleteLiz was undoubtedly the Queen of Bling. She knew the "good stuff" and had a way of always getting the best and most expensive gemstones. That ring is truly something else, it is so huge I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to lift my hand if I tried to wear it ... not that I could ever be so lucky as to have the opportunity to try it on. lol
