Kerrie Slade is a wonderful British contemporary bead artisan whom I featured before. Her modern approach results in aesthetic designs I much admire. But her work has literally ground to a halt as she is devoting all her time for her mother who is very ill at the moment.
Kerrie spoke highly of the hospice because they care not only for the patient but for all the family. She said in a Facebook post, "Mum's faith is very important to her and so when she knew she was dying she asked me to bead her a simple little cross that she could keep near her and hold in her hand at times when she needed extra strength."
So Kerrie designed a lovely yet simple beaded Pilgrim's Cross tutorial. It uses both brick and ladder stitch and is rated at the beginner level. It is not free but 100% of the £6 or approximately $9.30 cost goes to the hospice.
As this is Kerrie's fundraiser, the pattern itself cannot be copied, used for teaching or shared. But the pattern, once bought, allows you to make as many of these crosses as you wish. You are also allowed to sell the crosses you make. Perhaps even donate them as fundraisers for a charity of your choosing.
A beautiful design indeed dedicated to a much loved mother.

Kerrie ♥
What a wonderful way to raise money for the hospice as well as pay tribute to her mother. A beautiful idea, and a beautiful design...
ReplyDeletePearl, I'm going right over to Kerrie's site and buy this. I have a long-standing love of crosses and I can't resist just one more. The fact that Kerrie is using her talent to help a great cause in her community is a bonus. I am SOOO not a beader but I figure if I can't handle it, someone will take pity on me and make it for me. Thanks for sharing Kerrie's wonderful idea, Pearl!
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome. Actually, this might be the one that will get you inspired with bed work!
