Do you share my fascination for gemstones? It is remarkable how some rough stone can polish up to become gorgeous focals for jewelry making. Beaders and wire workers alike can really add to nature's bounty with the right designs.
Mattie and Phil are the husband and wife team behind Gaddabout Rock on Etsy stumbled upon rock hounding years ago. They were on a hike and came across what they thought was an interesting stone. Mattie said, "We took it home; my husband used the lapidary at our RV park to cut and polish it, then we were hooked!"
That began a hobby of collecting rocks themselves in different places in Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, Oregon and Idaho. The stockpile grew and they needed to do something about it! Custom pieces for family as Christmas gifts were a hit. Mattie added, "It was time to take our " hobby" a step further and sell to the public."
Their store now stocks a large variety of high quality gemstones from around the world. Part of their business is also wire wrapped cabochon designs which are done by Mattie. She runs the store while Phil does the lapidary work. Shown here are some of their droolworthy specimens. Check out their store for more!

ReplyDeleteWow...the Cabs look fabulous.Yet another great Giveaway I have just started working on my wire and stone collection and these cabs would be a perfect addition to it.

ReplyDeleteTheir cabs are incredible. I am in love with that wire wrapped Malachite pendant shown in your article, noticed they use it as their avatar on etsy. After browsing through their shop I had to like it on facebook, add them to my etsy circle and favorited their shop, even though I know none of this will give me point in their giveaway. LOL But their collect of gorgeous cabs blew me away and theirs is definitely a resource I will be coming back to. :)

Oooohhhh....These are beautiful. Doesn't Mother Nature create some amazing things? I love the variety of cuts/shapes & the wire wraps that don't hide the stones. I live in a small village in France where there are limited places to buy stones & supplies, so this giveaway would be a boon to my jewelry making.
