You don't have to be getting married to appreciate the beautiful medieval inspired bridal jewelry designs of Ohio based metalsmith, Adi Mileva-Thigpen. As you can see Medieval Bridal Fashions (no longer available) specializes in the style of jewelry which looks just gorgeous on medieval reenactors as well as brides.
Particularly stunning are her handmade tiaras, headbands, crowns and circlets. The headpieces look lovely worn nestled in the hair or on the forehead. Her circlets have adjustable extension chains at the back. Crowns differ in that they are completely solid at the back. Adi has useful tips on her site on which style is best with different lengths of hair.
Adi confessed, "I am a hopeless romantic, and a big Lord of the Rings fan. When I was a kid, I grew up with fairy tales of princesses, elves and adventures. My biggest dream then was...to be a princess." Now all grown up, she says, "My biggest satisfaction today is to be able to help anybody who has ever shared my childhood dream, to turn it into reality." She makes not just the jewelry but incredible medieval inspired gowns! Adi is modelling the Celtic Maiden gown here :
When she first started making jewelry, she thought most of her customers would be from the SCA (organization dedicated to researching and re-creating the arts and skills of pre-17th-century Europe) where she is a member. Elnara Niall is her "medieval" name. It is not surprising that others outside the SCA, without the remotest interest in medieval designs, grew to love her romantic designs.

ReplyDeleteWhat gorgeous designs!!
ReplyDeleteI think nearly all of us women harbour a deep desire to be or look like a princess once in our life. It's obvious in wedding dress designs and how we all oohed and aahed over Kate Middleton and her transfer from regular human gal to Princess Kate and all that entails.
Personally I never got the chance to wear a white wedding gown - especially one that is princess-like. However - I still think if I ever renew my vows I might rent one and wear something like what is shown around my head. Sigh.....
Elnara is a lady I can truly relate to. Her designs are ultra feminine with a touch of elven magic and a dash of pixie dust. Absolutely, drop-dead gorgeous. I'm sure her designs have made many a bride ecstatically happy as they walked down the aisle feeling and looking like a fairytale princess.
