I usually see cord wrapped cup chain in jewelry designs. These cup chains are mounted crystals linked together. Beaders can also have fun with these as you can see from these crystal cup chain and beadwork jewelry tutorials. First up is the Potomac Bead Company's video tutorial on how to intergrate the cup chain to a beaded rivoli bezel. The design is by Allie Buchman and Anna Taylor.
The foundation for the cup chain is made from bugle beads. The instructor, Allie Buchman, uses the same approach for this lovely bracelet creation and video tutorial called the Highgarden bracelet.
Katie Hacker for Beadalon also gave a quick video tutorial on how to use really easy two needle right angle weaving (RAW) to surround each cup and eventually end up with a cup chain beaded bracelet. This video is an older one so the quality of the video is poorer but it is worth a look.
Using the same RAW technique as above, Svetlana Daniel's video tutorial shows how she creates the beaded portion first and then sews on the cup chain. It is rather elegant when done with pearls. This tutorial is in Russian with some English instructions. I tried clicking on the subtitles/cc section on Youtube itself and auto-generated English translation of the spoken Russian appeared with hilarious results.

I like cup chain and have many different sizes and colours. I think a little bit of glitter in a piece never hurts. It's deciding exactly where to use it that sort of stops me - that's why I still have so much to choose from... :0)
ReplyDeleteThese are great ideas...I think looking at what others do can suddenly flip that switch in your artistic brain.
I like it too but have only bought the clear ones. Need. more. colors!
