Israeli artisan, Yael Falk of Yoola Design has a different approach to wire crochet which helps makes the stitches even. If you've ever tried to crochet wire, you'll know how distorted the stitches can get. The technique is not hard but it requires a lot of practice. With practice and a slightly larger hook (1 mm) than what Yael uses (0.6mm) I got fast enough to be able to make these Kazuri button wire bracelets and ring. A definite improvement from the first ring I made! Yael now recommends 0.75mm for beginners.
Yael sells finished jewelry designs like this Cleopatra ring below. For those who prefer to learn, she has kits, supplies and tutorials available. Her latest giveaway lets you pick whatever you like. Please add the link to your favorite Yoola item in the comments!
Here is Yael in her studio. With her makeshift smartphone stand, she has been able to capture short clips on her design process as well as stills.
Here is her quick demonstration on how she makes her Cleopatra ring. She is very fast indeed!
And this video shows a sneak peek on she makes the bezel for her crystal earrings.
Wire crochet need not be confined to jewelry. If you peruse Yoola Design, you will come across wire fruit and even wire crochet lampshades. Recently, Yael organized a wonderful Candle Light Holder contest. Here are some of my favorites from the contestants. Efi Kasida's design was the winning one.

Pearl...I have purchased several of Yoola's kits only to share them with others as gifts! To win this would mean I could start again on the journey with Yoola and wire crochet. Thanks for doing this.
ReplyDeleteginhuntoon@comcast.net
Ginny .... you haven't kept any of them for yourself ? :)
DeleteThis is a great giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the tutorials! I ordered the ISK spool kit so I can make a variety of projects. I made a wide cuff bracelet, and now I'm working on the tube necklace. It's fun, and it's a great way to relax too.
ReplyDeleteVic , i'm so glad to hear you enjoy your ISK kit ! would love to see your finished work on our YoolaISK group on Facebook :)
DeleteI would love to win this giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI like the largest kit where you can learn many different styles. It comes w 4 CDs and 5 spools of wire.
ReplyDeleteThis is great. I've tried a little wire crochet and haven't been real happy with it yet. I'd love to win this and try again. This is one of my favorites of hers, although it was hard to decide.

Those candle holders are absolutely amazing! Wow! I bet it was hard to decide who the winner was...
In addition to all of the other things that I do, I learned to crochet from my wife over 45 years ago. Using wire is always a challenge - I've used it for viking knit and kumihimo. Maybe winning the give-away would inspire me to get more involved. I like the http://www.yooladesign.com/collections/wire-crochet-jewelry/products/infinity-wire-crochet-gold-bridal-necklace.
ReplyDeleteI'm also a blog follower and look forward to seeing what you have come up with this week. It's always a treat.

I love all the tea light holders. Need to make some of them.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful work! I love the button bracelets! We make jewelry and accessories from recycled materials, and I'm thinking the crocheted bracelets would be fun to make with some of our vintage buttons!
