Making and Using Your Own Jewelry Polishing Sticks

I use polishing cloths - some are impregnated with jeweler's rouge.  While the cloths are really handy, I don't find them a very precise way of polishing jewelry.  So check out John Ahr  - the self styled jewelry professor - who shares how you can make and use your own jewelry polishing sticks.

Simple items like popsicle sticks, wooden dowels and a paint stir stick are used as the base. His first quick tutorial shows his method of adhering leather or chamois on them.

The second video shows how you can use the different types of polishing sticks to control exactly where you want to bring up the shine.  Which ones will depend on the shape of the sticks.  The dowel stick is really useful for rings!

  1. Love John Ahr's videos. Some are way over my current skills but this one is a great idea. Thanks for sharing the link to it.

  2. I think this is a brilliant idea - no pun intended! :0)

It cuts down on the cost of the prepared ones you can buy and if you layer the number of sheets on it you have an - almost - endless supply.

I just noticed Soham Harrison using his own handmade polishing sticks in one of his latest videos. It caught my eye after watching Professor John make his.

    Brilliant!!
