You can use many things for texturing polymer clay. This easy texture and paint polymer clay bead tutorial uses a larger filigree to "stamp" on the texture. This left a rather organic look - like the surface of walnuts. The tutorial is over on Kalinkapolinka.
The beads are first painted with a contrasting colored acrylic paint, wiping off excess paint. After drying, sanding takes off the paint in the high spots and leaves the darker paint untouched in the lower areas. Very much like how metal is patinated!

Nice basic tutorial for getting the black into the impressions. It's sometimes harder then it looks as it often wipes off when you least want it to...arghhh! :0)

Fantastic, I am about to make my first polymer clay trials (and errors) and was thinking of texturing with filigree metal buttons. The filigree bead is a great idea and also the contrast coloring, woo-hoo!
