Cabochons can be awfully awkward to hold while wire wrapping. When they are small enough for rings, it can get tricky especially if you are a beginner.  So this easy wire ring tutorial by OxanaCrafts solves that problem with the use of grooved gemstone cabochons.  As the designer says, it also has a minimalist look!  She has made simple loops for the wire ends thus making this ring adjustable.

She uses 20 G copper which is soft and easy to manipulate.  Square wire rather than round looks good  for this design.

A bit more challenging is her wire woven grooved cabochon tutorial. This gives the ring a lovely frame style.  Doesn't it look lovely once it has been oxidized?

The bigger grooved cabochons make great pendants! This sun inspired grooved cabochon tutorial is quite innovative as the designer wire weaves and then removes some of the foundation wires! That is what makes the sun "rays". It's not for beginners, that's for sure.

Where to buy grooved cabochons?  Check with your local store or supplier. You can also see some grooved cabochons here on Amazon.
