Wire crochet is not easy because wire has a mind of its own! But I found that I could make consistent wire loops quickly once I discovered the looms from Yoola Design. You can start off with chains but her looms makes things a lot easier. It takes some practice but once there, wire crochet becomes quite enjoyable. I have over the years created some new designs of my own. My first effort was a bead embellished ring, then bracelets - see here and a unique pendant.
But you do not have to create something innovative when you are just learning. Yael Falk, the designer and inventor of the looms, has great PDF + Video tutorials. She is actually giving away this marvelous set of 6 tutorials, worth $92 to one lucky winner.
What I really like about this ISK (invisible spool knitting technique) is its versatility. I loved how Yael created her little wire Christmas tree tutorial.
She recently added giant looms to her tool section which can be used to make wire mandelas! They look great in simple IKEA frames as wall art. She shared her wire color combination here. I would consider making the mandela and wiring them to a large hoop.
Yael has a truly creative mind. She recently shared in this blog post more ways to use her looms. You can combine more than one. Or slice one so you can make interlocking pieces :
My favorite is this clover-like design. Looks like a lacy coaster!

ReplyDeleteI would love this kit! Love her designs.
ReplyDeleteI have been enjoying the ISK technique for a little while. This is so much easier than the viking knit and more versatile and Yael has come up with more creative ideas on using these looms...cutting them and reassembling is something I would not have thought to do, but it seems to present another way to create new shapes. I wonder if she will eventually make looms in various shapes.
ReplyDeleteGetting more of her patterns would be wonderful.
Thank you both for this give away.
