I've always been charmed by handmade mermaid tail blankets ever since I saw them.  But just because these are big doesn't mean we jewelry makers can't get in with the fad!  Allison Cooling of Quiet Lion Creations does just that with her mermaid tail polymer clay jewelry tutorial. Her pendants are right on trend right down to the blinged up scales!  Someone on your gift list would surely love one of these!

She forms both fins freehand and had to trim one to make it the same size and shape as the other. One suggestion is to draw your design on paper. Cut out the pattern and place it over the polymer clay as a cutting template.

Another tip is to bake it for 1 hour instead of the usual 30 minutes. That takes care of fluctuations in the oven temperature especially if you use a toaster oven the extra time means it will be at the right temperature for long enough.
