Origami jewelry is not easy due to the challenge of folding tiny squares of paper. But Japanese Brazilian designer, Renata Mayumi, rises to it. Her origami creations in her store Mayumi Origami are also distinctive because of their geometric designs.
She uses chiyogami - washi paper which has been hand printed or stenciled with traditional Japanese designs. I also love how she uses geometric metal findings. My favorite are her beautiful mosaic and hexa designs.
Paper jewelry is possible so long as it is sealed. Renata explains, "The jewelry is finished with several layers of acid-free and non-toxic lacquer so it can be water resistant and prevent the paper to be damaged."
