The inspiration for this post came when I stumbled upon Luwan Global Beads' very contemporary angular and tubular beaded earrings tutorial.
The split color combinations make this simple design stunning. The instructor demonstrates two lengths. Where you put the color blocks is entirely up to you!
The use of monofilament for the thread rather than any other thread gives the work the rigidity it needs. Try 6 lb fishing line. The nearly clear fishing line also means the thread is less visible.
This tutorial by Happybeads_channel uses a "twin" needle method which works up very fast. The monofilament thread here is stiff enough so you don't need actual needles.
See this past featured cylindrical earrings tutorial which uses head pin cores.

Both of the videos are very well done and easy to follow. The first one about the earrings was fascinating and will now be part of my regular projects. I have to say that while the 2nd one was easy to follow, I wonder if you couldn't just use CRAW to make the tubes. I think that CRAW would be much easier to do and the results would look the same. I haven't been brave enough to use monofilament but will definitely have to start.
ReplyDeleteTry cRAW and see as that is the only way to be sure. Monofilament has two advantages - it's clear and stiffer especially for projects which have structure.
DeleteChallenge accepted! I first tried to duplicate her colors using CRAW but realized that it didn't matter because she was using the different colors to demonstrate her technique and used just one color to make the earrings. I did it using CRAW and the one color. It was the same result and as I mentioned above, did find it much easier to use.
DeleteBoth designs are very minimalist and elegant, the angular is my favorite!
ReplyDeleteLove those!
